Gain the essential knowledge and skills required for specifying materials, finishes, furniture, and fittings used in interior design projects. This unit focuses on developing an informed and creative approach to material selection, emphasizing both aesthetic and functional qualities. Learners explore the properties and applications of different construction and decorative materials, external and internal finishes, and the sourcing of high-quality products. Through practical research and real-world exercises, students will learn how to specify, source, and order materials from suppliers while reinforcing their understanding of construction methods and material performance in professional interior design practice.
Emphasis is placed on hands on training and practice. The sessions are 70% hands on practical assessments and 30% spread on lectures and research practice.
